Met-Chem | Filter Presses, Clarifiers & Wastewater Treatment Systems

  • Do you have a batch filtration system in industrial waste treatment operations where a slurry is generated from the manufacturing process? If yes then a filter press is probably a good option for you.
  • Do you have heavy solids you want to separate from a liquid? Do you want to reuse those liquids? then a filter press may be a good choice for you.
  • Do you want to save those solids? Is there something that should be recovered? Then a filter press may be the right choice for your needs. Learn More…

From PF Online: Filtration: A Simple Solution for a Big Problem: New Product From: Products Finishing, Edited by Hannah Coombs, Assistant Editor from Products Finishing ~ Posted on: 2/1/ ~ Filter Press Cloth Blinding can be a major issue. Precoating might be the answer.

Filter Press Case Study: Turning water into Gold: To dewater the gold concentrate, Met-Chem installed a MM filter press, and to eliminate the need for tailing ponds, Met-Chem designed a MM filter press to dewater the tailings concentrate.

Filter Press Case Study: No time to Waste – Emergency Filter Press Repair and Replacement: The client contacted Met-Chem with an immediate need for repair. Aside from the safety concerns of a damaged press, a filter press cannot run with a broken skeleton.  For this application, waste was continuously generated, which rendered this an emergency situation.

Filter Presses

Filter presses were first used in the Ceramic Industry over one hundred and sixty five years ago. Since that time they have been used in numerous applications so much so that it is referred to as the “work horse” of the filtration world.

Typical applications being:-

  1. Sewage Sludge
  2. Potable water sludge
  3. Dyestuffs
  4. Colours and Pigments
  5. Washed Coal Tailings
  6. Heavy metal and Plating shop effluents
  7. Food and Beverage Processing
  8. Most Industrial Effluents
  9. Quarry/Mining
  10. Power Generation

And there are many more industries where filter presses are used….

In recent years, several factors, including the Statutory Legislation controlling discharge to waste of unsuitable effluents, shortage of land for lagoons or drying beds, shortage of water and in some industries a search for additional by-products of a process, have brought about a new appraisal of filter presses.

Where the material to be filtered contains finely divided solids especially in the sub-sieve and sub-micron sizes, and where it is difficult to separate the liquid from the solid, a greater force is required to effect the separation efficiently.  The filter press can produce a higher pressure than either the centrifuge or the rotary vacuum filter or belt filter.  It is often the only unit suitable for filtering slurries, which have low filtration rates.

Filter Cloths

The filter press remains the most used filter for the separation of solids and liquids. Sizes to suit Filter Plates from 250mm Square up to mm Square.

Filter Press Cloths (sometimes referred to as Filter Bags) are tailored to suit individual requirements to suit filter presses from all manufacturers in a range of fabrics in natural and synthetic fibres including:

  • Polyamide 6, 6.6, 6.10, 11 Rilsan, 12
  • Polypropylene
  • Polyester
  • Polyamide P84
  • Polyethylene
  • ETFE
  • PTFE
  • PEEK
  • Natural Fibres
  • PBT
  • PVDF

The above material can be made in the following yarns:

  • Monofilament
  • Anti-static Monofilaments
  • Multifilament (or continuous wires)
  • Yarn of fibres

All our fabrics are heat-set and calendered, in order to ensure an elongation of less than 1%. This will help in the filtration process and give good filter cake release and discharge.

Filter Belts

The range of fabrics comprises of polyester spiral link belts fitted with or without fillers.

Also we offer woven polyester and polypropylene qualities to suit an extensive range of Belt Filters operated in today’s marketplace on many applications where high quality results are required. Belts are available with or without resin edge, and we also offer resin bonded clipper seams and pintle-wire fastening system.

Our filter belts can be used in a wide variety of applications for solid-liquid separation, e.g. sludge dewatering in belt press, sludge thickening in gravity belt thickener, filtration in horizontal vacuum belt filter, thickening in drum filter, conveyor belts, process belts in various industries, etc…

Antistatic belts with conductive yarns are used for applications with danger of fire.
