Artificial grass questions | Overclockers UK Forums

Hey guys, planning on doing some tidying up in the garden and looking into buying some artificial grass. The area being covered is already covered in grass which isn't growing and is patchy but the ground is flat, could I just spray weed killer down to kill of the remaining grass then lay thick weed control fabric down on top of it then lay the artificial grass on top of that? Like I say the ground is relatively flat with a couple of divit patches that I was going o fill and level out with sand but not sure which type to buy? Any info would be much appreciated. I was also going to dig in some 2x2 timber around the border to pin the grass edges down onto but what would be better nails or screws to keep it in place? The grass I was looking at was 30mm pile height so would this hide any ground imperfections? Cheers

Check with who ever is supplying the grass they all have different requirements and recommendations. I would expect you to need to dig down and lay a good base before the grass went on top. Some don't need weed control mat as they have it built in.
I've just done mine; https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=

Any questions just fire away

That's impressive, good job! how long did it take you to complete the job? When you say your filled area for the space where the grass went was it a shallow layer of type 1 then topped up with sand or more type 1, was it 50/50? how did you compact it so well, did you hire a machine or good old back end of a shovel lol

Cheers
It took about 6 days in total. It was a bulk bag of type 1 which is about 850kg I think, than just over a ton of sand on top of that. I used a vibrating compactor similar to this http://www.jewson.co.uk/tool-hire/c...ducts//lightweight-plate-compactor-350mm/

That's great, cheers. Never hired any equipment before but I'm guessing they can drop of and pick up the compactor? Garden looks really good and least you can get the best from it now.
